A former Camps Bay police station commander, who appeared in court on charges of child pornography and indecent assault earlier this year, was found dead in his Vredehoek home.
Zbiegniew Andrzej Weclaw’s body was found last Tuesday, September 7.
Mr Weclaw, 65, a station commander for 21 years and a police officer for 30 years, was arrested on November 24 of last year, seven months after his son Daniel Clifford Weclaw, 40, had filed charges against him in April.
The circumstances surrounding his father’s death are unknown to Daniel.
“I’m still waiting for an autopsy regarding his death. It’s been a frustrating time,” said Daniel about his father’s death.
Daniel says he found 59 DVDs containing child pornography, usually with young boys in, apparently filmed by his father. Daniel was one of the boys in the videos.
“I found the DVDs in his flat in April and that’s when I made the case. He was only arrested in November.
“It took a long while to arrest him and to get him to court, the case has been moved around from one court to another, I’m not happy with the way the investigation went,” said Daniel who lives in the Eastern Cape.
Police have opened an inquest into Mr Weclaw’s death.
